What Is Pilates?
To our friends who is completely new to the world of pilates, here's an introduction to what pilates is all about.
Pilates is a low impact, mind-body work developed by Joseph Pilates. Born in 1880, Mr Pilates overcame a chronic childhood illness by practising a combination of yoga, gymnastics and breathwork. Later this regime proved invaluable in the rehabilitation of war veterans. Since then, pilates has evolved into various methods but the fundamentals are still common to all and focus on the “core muscles” i.e. the deep abdominals and the lower back.
